15th Dec 2016

Unfortunately Mrs Bane's piece did not appear in News for Dudes so here it is!! Apologies to Mrs Bane!!!

Senior Infants/First Class

How the weeks have flown since September and the Christmas Show is upon us.The boys have been so busy preparing for our show ‘A Little Bird told me’ and our parents have been amazing helping us make stand out costumes and props.

I am privileged to work with such a fantastic group of boys in Senior Infants and First Class this year.  I am so proud of both classes and so impressed with how they settled into our new class routine and how mature, responsible and thoughtful they have been, while teacher works with each class. They have become so independent and hardworking.  Well done boys!!

Senior Infants have been working so hard revising all their letter sounds and have progressed to learning new sounds like ai, oa, ie , ee and or and using these sounds to blend and decode words.  Their writing skills are really developing with them become more confident writing from the whiteboard and their free writing has seen them writing sentences by themselves!!!

First have been working extremely well with Mrs Perdue developing their reading and writing skills. The boys have relished the challenge of cursive writing and are now really enjoying it.

Maths has been a busy time with lots of topics been covered in both classes.First have learnt about numbers 11 to 20 and how to combine and partition sets using these numbers, sequencing parts of the day, learning about the calendar and 2D shapes to name a few..  Tables challenge has been a real hit with 1st class and they enjoy practising their tables each week. Miss Mullins visits each week to complete Mata sa Rang with our first class boys and she is impressed with how well the boys listen and follow her instructions.Seniors have also learnt how to combine and partition sets using numbers up to 7, 3D shapes and have learnt how to use number lines.  They really enjoy our concrete activities each day and are great at working in pairs and in groups.

Both classes continue to enjoy our Gaeilge program Abair Liom with our songs and poems  being a big hit.  Mr. Ryan was drawn into our classroom one day as he passed and heard the beautiful singing from the boys singing their Gaeilge song “Ag dul ar scoil”.

We took a walk around Cashel in September checking out all the different types of houses we learnt about in Geography.  Art is a favourite each week.  It has been great trying out new techniques making town houses, creating different weather scenes and labelling them ‘as Gaeilge’ painting winter snowmen, and a real highlight was making Autumn trees using vegetables and fruit and then getting to eat their artwork!!!!

The boys are continuing their healthy habits eating fruit and vegetables each day as part of our Food Dudes program and the boys have been telling me about all the new fruit and vegetables they are trying out at home!! Keep it up!!!

I would like to wish the boys and all of their families a very Happy Christmas and I know Rosie Robin will have great reports for Santa and the boys will be very happy on Christmas morning.

Nollaig Shona daoibh go léír.
