LETTER TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS - EASTER 2021

LETTER TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS - EASTER 2021

24 March 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is odd to be thinking/talking about holidays when we’re only back physically in the school for a short period of time.

It has been brilliant to have everyone back but, in the last few days, there is definitely an increased air of anxiety out there in our community as we strive to keep each other safe and well. I would ask that you mind yourselves over the Easter holidays and to keep to yourselves as much as possible. Schools remaining open will depend on all our actions and so I’d ask you and your family to play your part.

We’re all fed up with it at this stage, but our children need to be in school and they need to complete a full Term 3. Let’s be optimistic that this will happen.

However, we must also plan as we know only too well to expect the unexpected during this pandemic. With this in mind, we’d ask that your son bring in his schoolbag tomorrow Thursday so that we can send books home. I must stress that this is 100 percent a precautionary measure and not because we know something you don’t.

Your son will take his books home in his bag tomorrow and bring them back on Monday 12 April.

Collection times this Friday (please continue to wear mask and no congregation)
JI to 1st 12pm
2nd to 4th 12:15pm
5th and 6th 12:30pm

Yellow Day For Daffodil Day this Friday
We are always very proud to support Daffodil Day. Cancer is something that touches all our families’ lives and so, this Friday, we are encouraging the boys to wear something yellow and to bring a €2 donation. If they don’t have anything yellow to wear, they can wear their ‘ordinary’ clothes. All proceeds to the Irish Cancer Society. Donations can also be made by clicking on the following link: https://bit.ly/3lL8D0V

Accelerated Reader (3rd to 6th)

All the boys from 3rd to 6th have been tested and we’ll be starting our Accelerated Reading programme when we come back after Easter. We will be sharing your son’s reading assessment scores with you. I also plan to do a live virtual presentation for parents after the holidays so you know how best to support your son’s engagement with the programme.

The Parent Association has, to date, raised €1350 for books to support Accelerated Reader. Every cent will be spent on new and modern books to encourage independent reading for enjoyment. The PA set a target of €2000 so the GoFund Me page is still open and accepting donations (see link below). On behalf of chairperson Rebecca and the wider Parent Association, thank you very much for your support.

Parent Association sponsored spot prizes for the virtual 5k will be announced at tomorrow’s end of term assemblies where we’ll also be announcing Pupils of the Term and our usual Gaelgeorí na Seachtaine.

Finally then, thank you to all the staff, you the parents and, of course, the boys for playing your part in the successful reopening. As they say, there’s nothing like being there!

Happy Easter and see ye back ready to rock for Term 3 on Monday 12 April.

Le meas,

Will Ryan
