Dear Confirmation Candidates and Parents,

After a long wait, Confirmation Day is finally in sight. I’m sure you are all looking forward to this very special day.

Confirmation Ceremony for Girls – Saturday, 9th October 2021 at 11am

Confirmation Ceremony for Boys – Saturday, 16th October 2021 at 11am

The ceremony will be a service in two parts. The first part is a ceremony of light. In this part you, the  parents, are reminded that you brought your child for baptism 11/12 years ago and that on that occasion you spoke for your child. Now as you pass on the light of faith symbolised by a lighted candle, you tell your child to now speak for themselves as they prepare to welcome the Holy Spirit. The second part of the ceremony is the laying on of hands and the confirming with chrism oil by the celebrant. For this second part the candidate comes to the altar steps with their sponsor. The sponsor stands behind the candidate putting their right hand on the candidate’s right shoulder.

The Sixth Class teachers will be in attendance to guide everyone on the day. We appreciate their continued commitment to these young people who they have prepared so well for this great day.

Please note the following details which apply to both ceremonies:

  • The ceremony will take place in the parish church on Friar Street
  • The celebrant for the ceremony will be Fr Enda
  • Access to the church will be limited to the Confirmation candidate accompanied by two family members along with the candidate’s sponsor. All four will sit together. Seats to be used will be marked out and then filled by families on a first come first served basis.
  • The ceremony will be live streamed on the church webcam so family and friends can view the special event at home. This can be accessed on churchcamlive.ie/cashel-parish-stream/
  • Each ceremony will begin at 11am. Candidates will need to be in the church at 10.30am and all attending should be seated by 10.50am
  • There will be no rehearsal for the ceremony so everyone is asked to follow the instructions as directed in the service booklet which will also contain all the necessary responses.
  • Candidates do not need to bring anything to the church. The candle needed for the Ceremony of Light section will be provided.
  • Candidates should dress appropriately for this occasion

Ms Ryan, Mr Coskeran and Ms Devitt will have the name cards for each candidate which will be pinned on before the ceremony. The card should be pinned on the left side.

Photographs are not permitted in the church at this time but there will be plenty of opportunities to take photos outside when the confirmed young people gather on the steps.

We look forward to two wonderful days ahead as our former pupils celebrate this special milestone in their lives. If you have any further queries or questions please feel free to email cashelgirlsschool@gmail.com or principal@cashelbns.ie
