A visit from Billy Maher
On Wednesday Billy Maher came to speak to both Fifth Classes and Sixth Class about the Cashel to Gooldscross train line. The boys had learned in local history earlier this year about the Dean Kinane fountain and the role Dean Kinane played in getting a train station to Cashel. His visit was both engaging and informative, capturing the interest of all the boys from the outset.
The boys were very attentive throughout and asked a number of thoughtful questions, showing great interest in the topic. Billy was very generous with his time, answering each question and encouraging discussion.
Billy is so passionate about trains as he grew up just beside Gooldscross train station. In addition to this, his father worked on the train line. He was a fountain of knowledge and answered many questions the boys had. He brought in some model trains to show the boys also. Billy also had the opportunity to catch up with his first cousin, Marie, who works in the school as an SNA, which made the visit even more special.
