"A Triumph of All Sorts"

5th Mar 2016

Easter Rising Drama in Boys’ School
5th and 6th class boys from St John the Baptist BNS in Cashel are busy rehearsing for a drama production entitled “A Victory of All Sorts” to commemorate the centenary of the Easter Rising.
History will record that a horse called “All Sorts” trained by Richard Cleary won the Irish Grand National in Fairyhouse on 24 April 1916. However, those names would soon be forgotten as events that day in Dublin city centre changed Ireland forever.
While most of the fighting took place in Dublin, there were some strong Tipperary connections, none more so than Proclamation signatory Thomas McDonagh who was born in Cloughjordan. After six days of battle, the white flag of surrender was raised. But who did win in the end – or was it simply a victory of all sorts?
Through drama, music, song and art, the boys bring the stories of the leaders of the Rising as well as ordinary Dublin people to life in dramatic fashion. They will perform for parents and other pupils during a matinée on Thursday 10 March at 1pm and again on Friday 11 March at 7.30pm.
Tickets for these much anticipated performances are available by calling the school office on 062-61833.
