St Brigid’s Day
30th Jan 2026
Our 6th Class boys continue the St Brigid’s Day tradition, a long-standing Irish custom that marks the beginning of spring on 1st February. St Brigid is one of Ireland’s patron saints and is associated with kindness, generosity and protection. Traditionally, children make St Brigid’s crosses from rushes or straw, which are then placed in homes and classrooms to bring blessing and good fortune for the year ahead. By taking part in this tradition, the boys are helping to keep an important piece of Irish heritage alive while learning about its cultural and historical significance.
