Letter to Parents/Guardians September 2021

Dear all,

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for a successful, safe and happy school year, to extend a very warm welcome to our new Junior Infants and to the boys in other classes who have joined us this year.  A warm welcome, too, to all new staff. We’ve 12 class teachers, 7 Special Education teachers, 1 English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher, our Seomra na Rí teacher, 7 Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), our caretaker Willie, Geraldine & Edilene in the office and Michelle, Imelda and Denise our cleaners.

As some of you might know, Deirdre & I have welcomed a new addition to our family.  Dáire was born on Sunday and Mammy and the little man are now home and doing well.  I will be taking paternity leave for two weeks starting on Monday 13 September and returning to school on Monday 27 September.  In my absence, Mrs Bríd Callanan, will assume my duties.  Bríd’s email is bridcallanan@cashelbns.ie if you need to contact her about anything while I’m away.  Ms Price will cover Bríd’s 1st class for the two weeks.

A few points to note:

  • Shorts (blue/navy, grey, black) can be worn for the month of September only. Indoor shoes not required this year.
  • Tracksuit days for Junior Infants to Second Class are Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays.
  • Tracksuit days for Third to Sixth are Tuesdays & Thursdays.
  • I’m aware that some of you have not received an invite for Class Dojo yet, but when you do please sign up.  To those that have recently signed up, thank you.  The majority of school-home communication will be done through Dojo.
  • Your sons have homework journals (1st to 6th) once again this year & their teachers will be in contact around their individual preferences for communicating homework tasks, receiving absence notes etc.
  • If you’ve not done so already, please label all belongings and in particular jumpers!
  • Check out the journal if you’re not sure about what’s allowed in lunch boxesWater only in a reusable bottle.  No diluted fruit juice, please. No problem if you want to give him a small treat on Friday to reward healthy eating during the week.
  • Communion will take place next Saturday 18 September at 11am in the parish church.  A separate letter will be sent to parents involved.
  • The Parent Association AGM will take place via Zoom on Thursday 30 September @ 8.30pm.  An agenda will be circulated on Dojo in advance of the meeting.
  • Thanks, in part, to your support of our 50/50 draws last year, this summer we replaced the carpet in two classes with marmoleum, converted one special education classroom into two smaller ones and updated our security camera system.
  • Junior Infants will be in school from 9.20am to 2pm from Weds 15 Sept onwards. We’re very proud of how well they are settling in!

Mind yourselves everyone & let’s continue to play our part in keeping our community safe.

Le meas,

Will Ryan principal@cashelbns.ie
